The Comox Valley is more than geography — it’s the heart of a vibrant, layered culture. Between Comox, Courtenay, and Cumberland there are distinct feels: coastal charm, a growing urban hub, and artsy-historical grit. Across all towns you’ll find a strong sense of community, creativity, adventure, and respect for the land and its people, not least the K’ómoks First Nation.
Population & Demographics
Understanding the people and places gives depth to the culture:
- Courtenay is the largest centre with about 28,420 residents (2021).
- Comox has around 14,800 people.
- Cumberland has grown to approximately 4,400 residents.
These numbers reflect steady growth over recent years, with Cumberland in particular seeing a strong surge. The Valley also includes rural areas, and the traditional, unceded territory of the K’ómoks First Nation, whose historic and living presence remains central to our identity.
