Your local Paddle Canada instructors, along with Comox Valley Kayaks & Canoes and Wavedancer – Premium Small Boat Repairs, are pleased to invite you to the 10th Annual Kayak Safety and Rescue Clinic at Goose Spit.
What a great way to celebrate National Paddling Week (actually, we are extending NPW a bit),and to practice your safety skills right at the beginning of the paddling season!
About a dozen local Paddle Canada instructors have signed up to volunteer at this event and we will be offering a number of brief clinics in various kayak rescue techniques.
* The emphasis is on refreshing your basic rescues (wet exit, assisted rescue, solo rescue, rafting up)
* More advanced techniques will be offered to people who demonstrate solid basic rescues (scoop, hand-of-god etc )
* Basic towing / contact tows
* Dry land safety clinics (CCG/TC required safety gear, clothing choices, recognizing and treating early stages of hypothermia, communication, safe kayak transportation etc) are offered on request.
There will be something for everyone – whether you plan on getting wet (which we encourage!!) or just come to watch from shore.
This is a registered Paddle Canada clinic and because we (the PC instructors) are donating our time and skills, Paddle Canada has waived any registration fees.
Boats and wetsuits (Farmer John/Jane style – bring your own top!) provided upon request by Comox Valley Kayaks & Canoes.
Please call Comox Valley Kayaks & Canoes at 250-334-2628 to register.
